So the company I work for, Dekko Comics has launched a crowdfunding campaign that could use your support!

Dekko makes educational comics for school kids who might struggle to learn the conventional way. They do great work and frankly, I wish I'd had these when I was struggling in school myself.

Please consider kicking in a few bucks for support and help spread the word!

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Stan Lee just the other day. Lee was a great man who did more for the medium of comics then most of us realize, and he'll be missed.

Unfortunately, I'm also seeing a lot of people bickering about the guy; folks coming out with "UM he actually didn't create (insert character)" and "He was just an editor, he didn't really write a lot!" I just want to address these complaints real quick.

First of all, Stan Lee wasn't just an editor, he was one of the most important editors in comic history, and vital in creating the Marvel we know today. He helped write amazing characters, mostly by adding essential elements of humanity and relatability. He held the artists to high standards and reigned in some of their more ludicrous ideas to keep things accessible (MAD respect for King Kirby, but some of his actual story ideas could be pretty out there). Not to mention his work on "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way", one of the ESSENTIAL books on narrative art.

But even getting hung up on his tenure as an editor is to undermine his true importance. Stan was the first person to truly champion comics as both art and literature at the level he did. What his critics like to deride as "self-promotion" was just as much crusading on behalf of comics.

It's important to remember that back then, comics were seen as disposable fluff for kids, to be consumed and discarded like candy wrappers. Stan used his natural gift for self-promotion, personable demeanor and unique eloquence to tell the world that they were so much more than that. Just watch the man in interviews as he speaks about the latest issue of Iron Man or Captain America with all the breathless enthusiasm and childish glee as if it were a great film or novel.

More so than anyone before or since, Stan Lee was a champion of comics as art to be admired as one would admire a great painting; literature to be read as one would read a fine book; a medium created by real artists and writers that deserves to be taken seriously.

In this age of web comics, creator-owned publishers and cinematic universes, the stigma of comics has thankfully passed. And now, sadly, so too has the man who did more than any other to fight that stigma. As a narrative artist myself, I say: Thank you Mr. Lee. Thank you for moving the medium forward, thank you for helping the world appreciate us and our art, and thank you for believing in us.

Excelsior.

That's right, after a few weeks of having this project on the back burner, Stanley Crowe is back! I've got a huge chunk of the remaining thumbs done, several paintings underway, and I'm stoked!
Halloween never ends, and Stanley still has some serious adventuring to do ;)

Yeah, I know it's still September, but screw that: HALLOWEEN!!! The weather's getting cooler, the stores are stocking up on spooky decorations, and soon October will be here. Halloween, the greatest, most spookiest time of the year is right around the corner and I couldn't be happier! Join me in keeping this holiday cheer alive for the entirety of October, won't you?

As for my current comic, I'm putting it on hold until November. The rest of September and all of October will be dedicated to a super special Halloween project! I can't wait to share it with you guys 🎃

This month I’ll be making some major changes in my life.

For years now I’ve been in horrible shape, both physically and mentally. I’m 30-40 pounds overweight, I’m constantly listless and depressed, and I procrastinate too much. Fact is, I just haven’t been taking care of myself for a while, and that ends now.

For starters, I won’t be watching any videos (movies, shows, online stuff, etc.) for 30 days. I’ve been watching vids every day for years and I feel like I’m reliant on that now. So I’m cleansing my system and curing myself of that need. It’s unhealthy and it’s a major source of procrastination.

Secondly, I’m going back to exercising daily. My house has a pool, I own a bicycle and we live in the woods. There’s no damn reason for me to not be more active and start building some muscles.

Also, I’m gonna start eating better. My diet consists mostly of what I can scrounge up, which usually means burgers or take-out. I gotta get some better food in me and loose some weight.

Lastly, I’ll be taking music more seriously. I’ve wanted to learn an instrument for years and I love my mandolin very, very much. I know being able to play it will be immensely beneficial to my mental health.

This is gonna be my year, you guys. The year I start earning some real money as an artist, create a better life for myself and maybe even start to enjoy myself again! Wish me luck, friends!

Yup. I'm totally participating in the Summer Animation Jam! I've been looking for an excuse to focus on some animating, and this seems like a pretty kickass opportunity to have some fun and build up my animation portfolio. I'll be keeping you fine denizens posted as to my progress.

ALSO, happy Pride Month! As an out-and-proud, unapologetic homo, I usually feel obliged to draw something totally gay in commemoration. We shall see. ;)

I've recently completed the pencil art for my 24 page mini comic starring me lemur character, Prof. Sydney Moustaffa. If anyone's interested in seeing the individual pages super early before they're even colored, consider contributing to my Patreon.

In the meantime, dig this sneak preview. I'll be posting more and more updates real soon, I hope you'll dig them!

I'm gonna be re-working this little comic from a few years ago with all new character drawings and colors. This was done back before I'd gotten Sydney Moustaffa's design where I wanted it to be, but I still like the backgrounds and storytelling in this, so I think it's worth taking the time to update it!

And yes, I've censored his willy. I'll be doing two versions of this: one with strategically placed bubbles to protect your eyes, and one with his junk on full display ;)
