JFrancisFright's News

Posted by JFrancisFright - 3 weeks ago

The November update is here! A bit late in the month, but it's still here XD

Not a ton or progress to report this month. Things were pretty hectic and stressful so I wound up not getting a ton done on the cartoon. I'll have another big update on that in December.

In more interesting news, I'm enacting an animation regimen to build both my chops and my portfolio: one 10-second animation per month. 12 fps, 30 days, average of 4 drawings per day. That's 200% doable. And you now what? I'm open to suggestions for prompts! If anyone has any fun ideas don't hesitate to share them! 🎃

In fact, I've decided on the first animation prompt, it's gonna be a simple one since December is gonna be pretty hectic (I'll be traveling out of state for the holidays and my best friend is visiting). I'll share the first drawing on my >>BLUESKY<< on December 1st!

ALSO be sure to check out my >>PATREON<< if you feel inclined to help support my queer little cartoons ;3

That's all for now!

Cheers, my lovelies!

Happy Spooky Month everyone! October is my very favorite time of the year. The weather is colder, the nights are longer, and Halloween stuff is everywhere!

Another great thing happening is I've got some cool updates to share!

Like I mentioned in my last update, I'm hand-inking my cartoon since it's faster for me than doing it digitally. I thought you fine connoisseurs would like to see some of finished frames:

They're coming along quite nicely, tho I still have to finish up the pencils for the entire cartoon first. ALSO I wound up re-drawing a part of a finished scene to make it look more fluid (the original version looked pretty robotic). It was a lot of extra work, but since I'm going the whole "indie animator" route, I want my work to be the best I'm capable of.

And yeah, this obviously won't be done for Halloween, but hey, deadlines are made to be broken. ;3

If any of you feel like helping out, you can do so via my >>PATREON<< . For as little as $1.00 a month you'lll get extra goodies like access to exclusive WIP stages and producer's credits! Every contribution helps and is greatly appreciated :D

That's all for now, time to get back to work!

Cheers, my lovelies!

So yeah, monthly updates are gonna start happening ;3

ANYWAY, I've been working on my first proper animated short, Viktor's Pumpkin Spook, the animatic for which you can check out >>HERE<< I have a lot more work to do on it, but I'm making some great progress and I'm excited to share it once it's done! I probably won't have it done in time for Halloween, but I'd rather do the best job I can and share something I'm proud of than rush it. Besides, I live Halloween year 'round anyway, it's more of a state of mind, really.

I did make one major breakthrough, in that I've decided I'm gonna be hand-inking my Viktor cartoon (and all other cartoons going forward) using fountain pens. I'm WAY better at traditional inks and I can do it much faster, so believe it or not, this is the much more efficient method for me XD

Also it means I'll be spending less time using the computer, which is good since staring at the screen for too long is a sure-fire migraine trigger.

As always, if you like my spooky gay cartoons and feel like kicking in a few bucks, please consider supporting me on >>PATREON<< . Supporters will get extra goodies like access to exclusive WIP stages and producer's credits! Every contribution helps and is greatly appreciated :D

As a last note, I feel like I've been neglecting good ol' Newgrounds lately, and that simply will not do. I love this place, it's the best art site online, and I need to be taking better advantage of that. I'll be much more active here from now on, and these monthly updates will continue from here on out (there's no set dates, just once a month whenever I have something to share).

That's all for now, time to get back to work!

Cheers, my lovelies!

Hello, my lovelies! I hope you all had a great holiday season and are sticking to those New Years' Resolutions ;3

NGL I had some pretty rough times this past year. My mental and physical health was for absolute SHIT for the past few months especially, so you'll have to excuse my extended absence. Things are starting to get better on both fronts, and I'm getting back into the swing of things. I've got a lot of commissions backed up and a lot of weird cartoons to make, and I'm excited for that!

Speaking of resolutions, my goals for 2024 are to take better care of myself and to spend more time with art & music. Get my website built, make more animation, maybe even play music publicly for the first time. Basically drop some bad habits & adopt some better ones. Y'know, the standard stuff.

From now on I'm gonna be a lot more active here. I have a LOT of art projects planned that I'm finally starting to tackle, so do keep on the lookout! Just FYI a LOT of it (like, the majority of it) is gonna be either A) queer horror stuff with gay clowns, nightmare circuses and bloody violence or B) surreal, Fleischer-style traditionally-animated cartoons. If wither of those things aren't your bag, now's your chance to dip. No hard feelings, you gotta do you :3

All that being said, the major takeaway from last year is that despite me struggling, I can't really complain. I live in a house with my husband, my first animated short is well underway, I've made great progress on my music & I always have plenty of food to eat. I'm very fortunate and grateful, thanks to everyone who puts up with & supports me.

You can support my work over at my >>PATREON<< if you have a couple extra bucks to spare. You can also follow me on >>BLUESKY<< if you, like me, are no longer active on Twitter.

I just got a sick vintage animation dick from STUDIO SCHOPMAN in Belgium. I spend the morning completely re-wiring it with a modern LED light, and I couldn't be happier with the results.

That's it, just figured I'd flex a little about my sweet new get, back to work now XD

My buddy Sharpy gave me a voice clip to animate for my next project, which will be my first time animating to pre-recorded dialogue. I'm super excited, I've already got the audio clip ready, and I went ahead and designed some characters for the clip!

This is Don and Mr. Bill. I don't have anything huge planned for them outside of the voice test, but we'll see. I'll definitely be adding less wrinkles to Mr. Bill's clothes tho, since I don't wanna drive myself crazy here.

I'll be posting more WIPs on my >>PATREON<< in case any of you feel like kicking a couple of bucks my way to help support an indie animator. ;)

That's it for now, more to come soon!

Heya folks, it's been a while!

First of all, let me apologize for my extended absence. The past two months were pretty hectic and generally awful for reasons I won't get into. Let's just say there's been a lot of health problems I've been dealing with and my productivity has been suffering as a result.

Fortunately, things have been improving and I'm back to making art again. I'm keeping a progress journal for my latest projects and I'm currently working on a little animated sequence with Viktor that I think y'all are going to like. I have a bunch more animations planned, plus some Stanley comic stuff, and even a few paintings in the works.

First and foremost though, I'm finally going to get my website finished. It's been languishing for months now, and with

Twitter in such a precarious state it's more important than ever that I carve out a little place for myself online.

(You can still follow me on PATREON for my artwork, of course).

Anyways, that's it for now. Things were pretty bad for me for a while, but they're getting better and I'm back to working on art again! I'll be posting some actual projects here very soon, as well as doing a much better job keeping up with this place in general. Thanks for sticking with me!

Stay spooky, friends!

I've spent my spare time recently refining the design for the character who'll be in my upcoming animated project, Viktor the fox. I've finally gotten him exactly the way I want, and now I'm ready to make him move!

This is gonna be a traditionally-animated series of shorts in the vein of golden age era Looney Tunes, especially the work of my animation idol, Chuck Jones. It's a hugely ambitious project to be sure & I'm biting off a bit more than I can chew here, no doubt, but I've been wanting something big to really sink my teeth into so I can really start building my chops as an animator. I'm gonna go for it & I'll be sure to keep you al posted!

I'll also be redesigning my >>PATREON<< in the near future to reflect the animation focus, as well as getting back into building my website. So yeah, lots to do, lots to do! Wish me luck, I'm gonna need some XD

I forgot to announce this here, but I've finally gotten a proper acme punch, so now I can make my own animation cells out of any paper I choose. No paper is safe! This will save me a lot of money in the long run, now that I don't have to buy stacks of pre-punched paper anymore (tho I'll certainly be doing that from time to time for bigger projects).

Anyways, just thought I'd share that as a cool update. I'm currently working on a little animated project, some WIPs of which I'll be uploading to my PATREON tomorrow, so keep yer eyes peeled!

I'm gonna be focusing most of my creative efforts on animation and making comics a bit lower of a priority (at least for now). It's kind of a drag to set my Stanley Crowe comic aside after working on it so much but the fact is: animation gets much more attention, which means more potential supporters, which means more bills get paid.

Make no mistake, I'll still be working on comic stuff, but my main creative output will be animation. That's okay though, cuz I love doing it, I'm super excited to be diving back into it, & I'll be posting all of it here for you all to enjoy. I already have some fun stuff planned out, including plenty of stuff with Stanley, so that's pretty cool too.

Despite my mixed feelings, mostly I'm STOKED to get back into animating. I'm doing exercises and reading / watching coursework, gradually working my way up to making creepy shorts with sound and music, featuring my pumpkin-headed gay boy. For the first time in a while I'm legit EXCITED to be an artist again.

Of course, if you're interested in helping me to devote more time to animation, you can always toss some rubles my way on PATREON!
